2025 HSEQ Internal Conference: strengthening safety culture and promoting ESG initiatives

On November 27, 2025, at the PV Drilling office building, Rach Dua ward, Ho Chi Minh City, Petrovietnam Drilling & Well Service Corporation (PV Drilling) held its 2025 HSEQ Internal Conference with the attendance of the Board of Management, heads of subsidiaries, representatives of the rigs, production bases, along with personnel in charge of the Health - Safety - Environment - Quality (HSEQ) work.

According to the report of the Technology - HSEQ & ESG Division at the conference, as of September 2025, the entire system recorded 3,952,195 working hours, an 11.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the drilling rigs accounted for 2,641,809 hours, representing a 29.9% increase. This nearly 30% surge in working hours is attributed to PV Drilling’s efforts in reactivating and putting the PV DRILLING VIII rig into operation, as well as the newly invested PV DRILLING IX rig currently being towed from Europe to Vietnam. Furthermore, the workload across subsidiaries has increased significantly, placing higher demands on the system and the HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) teams.

The year 2025 also marked several outstanding safety achievements. Notably, the PV DRILLING II and PV DRILLING VI rigs reached 16 and 10 consecutive years of Zero LTI (Lost Time Incident), respectively, as recognized by the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC). Additionally, rigs operating across Southeast Asia continued to receive commendations from clients such as Petronas and Pertamina for operational efficiency and safety compliance. Most notably, the PV DRILLING I rig was honored with the “Mission: Zero Possible” award from Petronas, recognizing its efforts in maintaining absolute safety and high efficiency while meeting the most stringent criteria in the oil and gas drilling industry.

Risk identification and prevention efforts have been further strengthened through the PVD Card system. In the first nine months of 2025 alone, a total of 91,751 PVD Cards were recorded across the entire system, including drilling rigs, production bases, workshops, and offices, contributing to the early-stage prevention of safety hazards.

Environmental initiatives and energy efficiency measures have also been intensified. As of October 2025, the progress of LED lighting replacement across owned rigs has achieved impressive results: PV DRILLING II reached 94%, PV DRILLING III 91%, PV DRILLING I 87%, TAD-PV DRILLING V 78%, and PV DRILLING VI 58%. These efforts have helped PV Drilling save 308 tons of diesel oil (DO) annually while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 919.4 tons — including CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O — making a tangible contribution to the Corporation’s sustainable development goals. Furthermore, PV Drilling sponsored the planting of 100,000 Melaleuca trees in Tan Phuoc Hung Commune, Can Tho City, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration, maintaining safe habitats for bird species, and protecting the community's 'green lungs'.

Delegates exchanging ideas at the conference.

At the conference, discussions focused on sharing the root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures for various incidents. Notably, the HSEQ department of PVD DD shared their experience in preventing and mitigating hazards on rigs operating overseas. A key challenge highlighted was working in environments where local personnel still struggle with language barriers and possess work cultures and safety mindsets that differ from their Vietnamese counterparts. Consequently, solutions were proposed to enhance safety awareness and culture, thereby increasing operational efficiency under high-intensity work conditions.

Alongside HSEQ activities, the conference highlighted PV Drilling’s significant progress in implementing its ESG strategy. Since January 2025, PV Drilling has officially issued its 'ESG Objectives' and established the Strategy and Sustainable Development Committee. These milestones not only bolster the trust of shareholders and investors but also enhance the company’s ability to meet increasingly stringent international tendering criteria regarding safety, environment, and corporate governance.

PV Drilling is currently collaborating with experts to implement several key activities, including, assessing the current state of sustainability, recommending improvement roadmaps, and developing a corporate ESG index aligned with both Petrovietnam’s standards and the company’s specific operations. Furthermore, the company is proposing long-term ESG initiatives and seeking consultancy for the preparation of Sustainability Reports in accordance with international standards to support information disclosure and investor relations.

PV Drilling’s Vice President Dinh Quang Nhut giving concluding remarks at the conference

Concluding the conference, Vice President Dinh Quang Nhut, on behalf of PV Drilling’s Board of Directors, recognized the dedicated efforts of the entire HSEQ team throughout 2025. He reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to prioritizing investment in systems, technology, and training to maintain and enhance safety culture awareness. Mr. Nhut emphasized: 'Sustainable development must go hand-in-hand with growth and the safety of our workforce.' He further noted that future HSEQ Internal Conference and 'HSEQ Day' year-end conferences will be expanded to incorporate sustainability-focused content.

Representing the Leadership, Mr. Dinh Quang Nhut reaffirmed: 'HSEQ remains a core value, playing a vital role in ensuring sustainable development and upholding PV Drilling’s reputation. Regardless of the phase, even as workloads increase, safety requirements must receive paramount focus. PV Drilling can only maintain its leading position and grow sustainably by putting safety first.'
