PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Service Corporation (PV Drilling) subcontracted Borr Drilling to provide the Jack-up Drilling Rig “THOR” for domestic drilling campaigns.
The drilling campaign of Hoang Long Joint Operating Company (Hoang Long JOC) shall commence in late August 2024 within 70 days for two development wells at Te Giac Trang field in Block 16-1, Cuu Long Basin, 100 km southeast of Vung Tau, offshore Vietnam. (20 km from Bach Ho field)
According to the Letter of Award from Thang Long Joint Operating Company (Thang Long JOC) to PV Drilling, the Rig Thor will also be commissioned for a drilling program lasting approximately 51 days in Block 15-2/01, offshore Vietnam. The program includes (i) one newly drilled well with a duration of about 31 days prior to Hoang Long JOC's drilling program; and (ii) workover of an existing well for about 20 days after the rig wrapped up operations for Hoang Long JOC. Thang Long JOC's scope of work is performed based on a Rig Sharing Agreement to be signed by the related parties.
Currently, all of PV Drilling’s offshore rig fleet (includes 4 jack-up rigs and 1 TAD rig) have secured long-term contracts abroad and thus unable to fulfill the growing demand of the domestic market. Therefore, PV Drilling has secured the rig THOR on charter from Borr Drilling for Hoang Long JOC and Thang Long JOC. This is a new generation jack-up rig of KFELS Super B Class design, manufactured in 2019 and can drill up to 10,000m at location up to 120m water depth.
Besides increasing its overseas market share, PV Drilling is proactively implementing strategic plan to invest in new rigs to supply the domestic market while focusing on new technologies, incorporating digital transformation and artificial intelligence into rig operation to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and bring added value to customers.
