PV DRILLING VI completes drilling campaign for SK Earthon

The jack up PV DRILLING VI rig owned by Petrovietnam Drilling and Well Service Corporation (PV Drilling) has completed a drilling contract for SK Earthon at Block 16-2 offshore Vietnam.

In accordance with the signed contract, PV DRILLING VI rig conducted the drilling and well testing services for SK Innovation Co., Ltd. (SK Earthon) from early 2023 at Block 16-2 offshore Vietnam. The drilling campaign was implemented safely and efficiently with an outstanding achievement of “an oil layer discovery” on 16 November, 2023. It also marked SK Earthon’s first oil discovery milestone through exploratory drilling in the last four years in Vietnam, after the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in Block 15-1/05, in 2019.

This achievement definitely brought great joyfulness to SK Earthon after a long time of pursuing oil and gas exploration activity offshore Vietnam. Besides, it also contributes to enhance PV Drilling’s prestige as well as affirming our capability in rig provision.

PV DRILLING VI was towed to Malaysia in early December, 2023 right after completing this drilling campaign as the Rig was planned to serve a new drilling campaign of Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) in 2024 – 2025 in accordance with the frame contract signed through an agent in Malaysia with PCSB in January, 2023.

The two other jack up rigs, PV DRILLING I and PV DRILLING III are also drilling in Malaysia, increasing a total of 3 owned rigs providing services in Malaysia in 2024.

Entering 2024, PV Drilling is confident and optimistic while all 6 owned rigs are busy with drilling campaigns through the whole year with improving day rates and high rig efficiency. Especially, 5 out of 6 rigs will serve at ASEAN drilling markets.

The jack-up PV DRILLING VI is the latest generation of its kind and the upgrade version of MOD V B CLASS design of Keppel FELS. PV DRILLING VI is capable of drilling up to 9,000m at the water depth of 121m. Up to 18 February, 2023, PV DRILLING VI has achieved 8 consecutive years with Zero LTI (without Lost time incident), certified by the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC).
