In 2011, as the Vietnamese oil and gas industry faced increasing demands for exploration and production in deep-water, offshore areas with complex geological structures, PV Drilling’s proactive move to form a joint venture with Baker Hughes demonstrated a long-term vision and a determination to master core drilling technologies. Over the past 15 years, the PVD Baker Hughes Joint Venture has played a vital role in the Corporation’s ‘ONE PVD’ service chain.
From its earliest days, PVD Baker Hughes clearly defined its mission: to become a leading provider of well technical services in Vietnam, meeting international technical standards while remaining compatible with local operating conditions. Accordingly, PVD Baker Hughes’s core advantage stems from a harmonious combination of PV Drilling’s deep understanding of the Vietnamese market, regulations, and operating environment, alongside Baker Hughes’ modern technological platforms, advanced equipment, and global experience. This synergy allows the joint venture to provide clients with optimized, flexible, and efficient technical solutions, contributing to the overall quality of domestic oil and gas services.
The Joint Venture’s first and most large-scale milestone was collaborating with PV Drilling to provide services alongside the TAD-PV DRILLING V rig for the Bien Dong 01 project over a five-year period (2011–2015). By applying advanced, complex deep-water and extended-reach drilling technologies, the TAD-PV DRILLING V deep-water rig, together with its associated services, successfully completed highly complex wells, ensuring absolute safety, shortening execution time, and significantly reducing costs for Petrovietnam. This success not only affirmed the technical capabilities of PVD Baker Hughes and other subsidiaries of the Corporation but also proved that PV Drilling is step-by-step mastering the world’s leading modern drilling technologies.
Production enhancement services
After 15 years of establishing and developing, PVD Baker Hughes has continuously expanded its market presence and service portfolio, providing a full range of well technical solutions. These include directional drilling and surveying, logging while drilling, coring, and geophysical measurement of drilling well (excluding cased-hole logging services). The Joint Venture also provides liner hangers, casing exits, drill bits, intelligent well completions, coil tubing services, well intervention, cementing, hydraulic fracturing, and well stimulation using acid and solvents. Furthermore, the Joint Venture has pioneered the application of numerous advanced technological solutions trusted by clients, contributing to enhanced production efficiency and cost optimization for oil and gas projects.
Cementing
Throughout 2024 and 2025, with the support of PV Drilling Corporation, PVD Baker Hughes collaborated with other PV Drilling subsidiaries to provide comprehensive turnkey solutions for several key projects. This included providing 'Bundled Services' for the Dai Hung Field Development Phase 3 project for the operator PVEP-POC. This collaboration aimed to deliver integrated solutions for the client while leveraging the Corporation's collective synergy, marking a highlight in business operations over these two years. Furthermore, during this period, PVD Baker Hughes successfully utilized its technological strengths to implement high-tech projects for clients in Vietnam. Notable examples include the 'Tele-Coil Tubing Perforation' project for Idemitsu and the 'Multi-Stage Fracturing' project for Vietsovpetro.
Alongside the development of drilling technology, one of PVD Baker Hughes’ most significant milestones after 15 years of operation is its success in localizing its workforce. The team of Vietnamese engineers, specialists, and managers has increasingly mastered technology, procedures, and operations, thereby minimizing dependence on foreign resources and ensuring autonomy, stability, and sustainability in service delivery within the Vietnamese market.
Coil tubing
